- Put a rain date on your pool party invitation, and your phone number.
- Give beach balls and water squirters as favors. They can be used that day and will carry home a fun memory. Have sharpies ready to jot names on the favors to avoid arguments. Buy a couple of spares for when one gets broken or is defective. Blow the beach balls up in advance.
- Incorporate water balloon games for sure success. Fill the water balloons before the party. Our favorite water balloon game is kids vs. dads. The large tub of water balloons sits in a center common area. Each team must stay behind their line, except when running into the middle ground to get one balloon at a time from the tub. They can throw the balloon once they return behind their line.
- Before the kids arrive, setup a snack area with veggies and dip, chips or crackers and self-serve beverages. Put little umbrellas in the cups, and choose bright color napkins.
- Choose a meal you can prepare in advance so that you can supervise the pool area. Have the food ready to pull out for your meal, i.e. sandwich trays, crock-pot of mac and cheese, and apple slices which you have dipped in lemon water.
- Setup picnic blankets in the yard for easy eating areas.
- Frost your cake in pool blue, and add graham cracker crumbs around the edge to look like sand, or use pool-theme cake decorations.
- Play “hot potato” with a beach ball to see who’s present gets opened next.
- During the gift opening, have the children volley beach balls across the circle of children.
- Extend your pool party into a sleepover with a summer-theme movie and, if you have a house-full of girls, supplies to make friendship bracelets.
